Tantra yoga works with deep relaxation. Students learn the feeling of flowing into the asanas without struggle, developing a deep form of Yoga Meditation. This technique is completed by the practice of bandhas, pranayama, mantra chanting, sitting meditation and kundalini kriyas.
Students explore tantra yogic lifestyle, philosophy and arts. Together we will discover ways in which to implement the yoga experience into everyday life.
Through the Tantra teachings students learn about the energetic exchange between Shiva and Shakti, the two polarities, and how to integrate sexual energy into their yoga exploration.
Through Kundalini Yoga we deeply explore the pranayama techniques used in kundalini, tantra yoga, and the Chakras system. We practice specific kryas to feel chakras and work with their energy.
Tantra yoga methodology, Ayurvedic walking massage, and partner yoga are also part of the program.
With Partner Yoga we will discover the joy and the importance of support and be supported, The challange is to take care of the sacred space dancing between me and my partner, and I experience the joy of giving and receiving.
We practice in silence to not distract the other senses from the flow of the practice and concentration in one-self and also in the other. It’s a work of active listening to feel until which point the other can arrive.
In these classes we will keep on working on many asanas of the kaula tantra yoga serie, using the approach of tantric wisdom, in which we will focus in presence, senses, connection, body communication, more than acrobacies, and in this way we will create the dance of Shiva and Shakti.
Durga’s Tiger Dance, a form of movement developed by Iris Disse based on yoga energy work and different dance styles, is another form through which students deepen their creativity and relaxation in body movement. The training also involves voice work through mantra chanting.
In the October – November 2018, 300hrs course we will have live music in our Durga’s Tiger Dance classes as well as in some ancestral rituals which are part of the program. Musics will be performed by The Alimishly Project who collabrates with us in trainings once per year (you can see their profile in the page of “Our Team”)
We will approach the vision and methodology of the Kaula Tantra yoga practice in the classes of Intuitive anatomy and physiology in which we will develop a connection with our inner body intelligence, learn how to read it better and act according to it’s current needs. It’s about the combined powers of the mind and the physical body and the effect of being totally in harmony with the messages we perceive form our bodies in each moment.
In the Applied Tantric Wisdom classes are an opportunity of self discovery. As the course is based on the experience, we will create active and participative classes where we will work on some of the main aspects of Tantra.
Students are given time for self-study, reflection, and practice teaching tantra yoga classes with each other. During the course they will also complete one or two written projects.
During theory and practical learning courses students experience a deep personal work, exploring themselves with applied tantra philosophy, art, shamanism, and the Durga’s Tiger Dance.
As we are living in Ecuador with a huge indigenous population, students also have the opportunity to learn about Andean culture, its cosmovision, and its similarities with eastern culture. During the course, shamanistic energy concepts are explored together with the Tibetan tantric tradition. There are parallels in how these two different traditions understand energy, astrology, subtle anatomy and physiology. This work helps Ecuadorian yoga students integrate more easily with eastern wisdom.
Shamanic clown is an energetic training that combines improvisation, clowning, dancing, musical/rhythm work, meditation and practical shamanism, among other things.
This work is a fusion of tools and experiences that can be used in art & life. Get in touch with your inner child and intuition, develop the right side of the brain and lateral thinking, release patterns and blockings, open your ears and eyes to the present moment and to others, work in group in more effective and loving ways, and increase your creativity and artistic skills by looking at things in a completely new perspective.
The clown is an archetype that repeats its presence throughout many cosmovisions in human history – east to west, ancient and contemporary. The fool, the contrary, heyoka, etc.
The main role of this character is to act in a way that is different to the ordinary and accepted, sometimes precisely the opposite, in order to raise the awareness of ordinary people through… play! Yes! We can’t play or laugh at the world if we don’t start by laughing and playing with ourselves. Clowning involves deep transformation. It’s a kind of shamanism of ourselves that will reflect positively in the creation of our lives and relationships.
Karma yoga is part of the learning process of community life. We help each other to maintain common spaces and materials, we take care of the “Pachamama” (Earth). Through karma yoga we keep in contact with the earth and its fruits as we contribute to the well being and learning of the group.
Presentation of Durga’s Tiger School in video:
A letter from a former student
“Dear students, seekers, yogis,
Welcome to this yoga teacher training – more than a course, this is a one month retreat from your everyday life – a chance to connect with your inner self and to explore your being in its various aspects: body, mind and spirit.
For that, the organizing team has built a curriculum that involves meditation, various styles of yoga (tantra and kundalini), Ayurveda lectures, dance and shamanism classes. There are also special activities that you can participate in, such as the temazcal (a sweat lodge which originated with pre- Hispanic Indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica). They all are meant to take you out of your comfort zone, and bring your awareness back to yourself as a way to further explore who you are. It won’t be easy – it is likely that you will be an emotional rollercoaster this month – just breath, relax and have fun!
Indeed, this is a Tantra yoga school. Tantra has its roots in Sanskrit words, which refer to expanding our consciousness to attain liberation. This means that the focus of the course will be almost exclusively on stimulating your experience. There won’t be much theory – and please be open to accept it. If you need to write, use the little notebook that is given to record your experience. Halfway in the course you will have a feedback session to share your views and suggestions for improvement.
Finally the only thing I can advise you is to trust the process, the team and yourself. Let yourself flow, forget about the Western way of processing life which focuses on absorbing information and theories, and just enjoy developing your body intelligence. Dare to transform knowledge into wisdom by owning it!
At the first week of the course the Durga’s Tiger School Team will pass on all the bookish references you need. In the meantime, let yourself be and feel your way throughout the course, while relying on your colleagues. You, your colleagues, and the group will be your greatest teachers. So take advantage of every minute of this human oasis!
